paul bailey ensemble-eagle rock music festival, sunday october 3rd
Just got done sending out the emails for the Eagle Rock Music Festival next weekend. The festival is always a really good hang, Saturday is the rock acts and Sunday is a mixture of new music, world music and student performers. I am really happy to be performing, this is a great venue to enjoy a sunday afternoon concert.
It will be a fun day. I am looking forward to hearing the students from the Renaissance Arts Academy perform. I met a few of the students at our last performance and they were really interested in hearing Violin Machine live. It will fun to hear them play before us (12 noon) The school is currently holding some of their classes at the Center for the Arts in Eagle Rock and will be moving into their building soon. I am sure that they cannot wait to get into the new facilities.
We start rehearsals with everybody monday night at Avenue 50 Studio
The Program for the Concert is:
music from summerland, paul bailey
explores the juxtoposition of pop song forms and harmonies through post-modern and minimalist gestures. summerland refers to a mythical-emotional place where we escape daily routine by making music; composing, rehearsing and performing. this music lies somewhere between art music (music meant to be contemplated) and pop music (music meant for mass consumption).
violin machine, lloyd rodgers (featuring violinists Shalini Vijayan and Sam Formicola)
is a recomposition of the accompaniment of the bach double violin concerto, in which the solo violin parts are left unmolested. the composition was originally written for the violinists, joseph goodman and diana halpern of the cartesian reunion memorial orchestra in 1987.
law and order, michael bayer
is based on a 1983 event in which artists sprayed political slogans over advertisements in the new york city subway. law and order was originally performed ad-nausea by the cartesian reunion memorial orchestra, which was instigated by lloyd rodgers.
The ensemble is:
Shalini Vijayan and Sam Formicola violins, Giovanna Moraga cello, Pam Gadaire electric guitar, Matt Menaged, bass guitar, Diane Barkauskas, keyboard, Kyoko Kamei, vibraphone, Scott McIntosh, clarinets, Paul Bailey, trombone
