Eagle Rock Music Festival 2004

On October 3rd beginning at 11 a.m., the Center for the Arts will host a brunch followed by a concert of classical music programmed by the Renaissance Arts Academy.  The afternoon continues with the Paul Bailey Ensemble performing contemporary classical music at 1:30 p.m. 

The ensemble will feature two of its members, violinists Sam Formicola (LA Chamber Orchestra, LA Opera, Pasadena Pops) and Shalini Vijayan (Pacific Symphony, LA Opera, Opera Pacific) performing a deconstruction of J.S. Bach’s Double Violin Concerto. The group will also play music by Michael Bayer, Paul Bailey.

At 3 pm the exciting Cal Arts Percussion Ensemble will take the stage.  The festival will close with a 7:30 pm concert with Open Gate Theater’s Eclectic Jazz. All events are free of charge.

The festival is presented with the generous support of Council Member Antonio Villaraigosa, the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, the Los Angeles County Arts Commission, the Recording Industries’ Music Performance Trust Funds through the Professional Musicians Union 47, and the community of Eagle Rock.

The Center for the Arts, Eagle Rock is a non-profit organization, supported solely by grants and donations, providing arts programming in the form of low cost classes, concerts, exhibitions, and festivals to the surrounding areas and communities.

Music from Summerland, paul bailey

explores the juxtoposition of pop song forms and harmonies through post-modern and minimalist gestures. summerland refers to a mythical-emotional place where we escape daily routine by making music; composing, rehearsing and performing. this music lies somewhere between art music (music meant to be contemplated) and pop music (music meant for mass consumption).

Violin Machine, lloyd rodgers

is a recomposition of the accompaniment of the bach double violin concerto, in which the solo violin parts are left unmolested. the composition was originally written for the violinists, joseph goodman and diana halpern of the cartesian reunion memorial orchestra in 1987.

Law and Order, michael bayer

is based on a 1983 event in which artists sprayed political slogans over advertisements in the new york city subway. law and order was originally performed ad-nausea by the cartesian reunion memorial orchestra, which was instigated by lloyd rodgers.
